Prevention is the primary focus of Mountain View Dental. Regular cleanings and exams are the cornerstone of maintaining good oral health.
Cleanings
An important part of maintaining good oral health is having your teeth cleaned regularly. Most people require a cleaning every six months. Our hygienists are specialized in keeping your mouth healthy. At cleaning visits special instruments are used to clean off plaque and calculus, which build up over time. During the visit your dentist will also perform an exam to ensure good oral health is being maintained.
Sealants
Sealants are easily placed and are very effective at reducing decay. They are placed on the chewing surfaces of teeth in the back of the mouth (molars and premolars) to protect against decay. Sealants have been shown to reduce dental decay by 87% in the first year and by 60% for 4.5 years after they are initially placed.1
Fluoride
Fluoride is used to strengthen teeth and reduce the risk of developing dental decay. When used as a topical agent, Fluoride actually has the ability to help remineralize areas of the teeth that have begun to decay. Fluoride is found in toothpaste and can be applied in higher doses as a varnish by your dentist. Children are often prescribed fluoride pills when town water has not been fortified with fluoride.
Digital X-rays
X-rays are used to diagnose and help treat many oral diseases. At Mountain View Dental, we use the latest technology to provide high quality images while using smaller amounts of radiation.
Mouthguards
Athletic mouthgurads are worn to protect the teeth and reduce the risk of concussion during athletic activity. Custom mouthguards are form fitting to the teeth giving them a better ability to remain in place and make it easier to breathe and speak while playing sports.
